Staffan Tollgard was born in Sweden. He worked in film work in the early days, and later he accepted architectural design studies at the Inchbald School of Design. It is now a full member of the British Interior Design Institute and its committee.

In 2005, Staffan Tollgard and his wife Monique founded the Staffan Tollgard Design studio.
